Test your knowledge against elementary math, reading, geography, social studies, and science. Winnebago School District #323 will host its Second Annual “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader” on Tuesday, March 16 from 6 - 8 p.m.

Third quarter ends March 19

Jean McNair's third quarter grading period will end Fri., March 19, and report cards will be sent home on Wed., March 24.  The fourth and final quarter of the school year will begin on Mon., March 22 and we have much to do prior to the year ending. 

We are all hoping the 4th quarter will bring warmer, spring weather…I know we’re ready for it! 

Spring Picture Day April 12

Jean McNair Spring Picture Day will be Mon., April 12.  More information will be sent home with students.

Compass Learning offered at Jean McNair

We have an exciting, new opportunity available to our students here at McNair. Compass Learning is a web-based program used to help students learn at their own level in the areas of Language Arts and Math. Compass Learning imports scores from specific areas of the students’ NWEA tests, such as Word Analysis and Vocabulary, Reading Strategies, and Literary Elements.

Spelling Bee winners advance to regional competition

Ready, set, spell! Students at Winnebago competed in spelling bees to send representatives to the Boone-Winnebago Regional Spelling Bee at Harlem High School on Thurs., March 18.

ISAT Testing begins March 1-12

Students in grades third, fourth, fifth, six, seventh, and eighth grades will be taking the Illinois State Standards Test March 1-12. In third grade, students will be tested in reading, math, and writing.

Grant's visits McNair

General Grant and his wife visited students at Jean McNair Elementary School. Scott and Peggy Whitney visit students in observance of President’s Day and discuss, reenact and share different experiences from the Grant’s lives.

Jean McNair Elementary Kicks-off Winter Olympics

Students at Jean McNair Elementary School conducted their own rendition of the opening ceremonies for the Winter Olympics on Friday. Classes lit a torch, the Olympic flame and chose their countries.

Student Directories available at school offices

Student Directories are available for purchase at all school offices. The Student Directory is a Winnebago school phone book that lists all early childhood through grade twelve students alphabetically with their grade level, address, parent/guardian names, and phone number. Directories cost $4 each or two for $7. If you would like a directory, please stop in any school office.

Jean McNair Accelerated Reading

The Accelerated Reader program combines the best children's literature with intuitive software that tests reading comprehension. The software also manages all student records and tracks reading performance. It is based a foundation of self-paced, individualized reading. Each student selects his or her own reading material.

Remember when?  We have been asking ourselves that in the Athletic Department lately and are hoping you can help us out. 

Elementary students attending sporting events must be accompanied by an adult

Now that the school year is underway, many of you will be attending games to show your support.  While we hope you will attend the events to support our schools, it also is imperative that any student fifth grade and younger is accompanied by an adult. 

Parents and guardians welcomed on field trips

Parents and guardians on our field trips are welcomed and appreciated! Not only is it a great educational time to spend with your child, but also a super bonding experience between parent and child.
