Jean McNair Celebrates Red Ribbon Week

Jean McNair students and staff have been celebrating Red Ribbon Week October 29 - November 2.  The theme is Life is Your Journey...Travel Drug Free! Each student was given a suitcase to decorate for their travels during the week and to post on their lockers. The week kicked off on Monday with those students who were wearing red forming a McNair red ribbon in the gymnasium.
Then, all of the students “traveled” to France and received mustaches for “I mustache you not to do drugs”. On Tuesday, the students learned to “Lei off drugs” and wore leis and Hawaiian clothes for our travels to Hawaii. Tuesday afternoon, a magician came to McNair and educated the students about bullying while also entertaining them. Wednesday was Halloween so everyone wore black and orange for their travels to Mexico where we learned that “Las drogas dan miedo – drugs are scary”. On Thursday, we had to wear scarves and stocking hats to “Give drugs the cold shoulder” and to travel to Antarctica. Red Ribbon Week wrapped up on Friday with a trip to Washington D.C. so we wore red, white, and blue. The students were taught to “Vote for my future to be drug free”. At the end of the day all of the students met in the gym and read books for 20 minutes in either France, Hawaii, Mexico, Antarctica, or Washington D.C. They were each given a Dum Dum and a “Life is Your Journey...Travel Drug Free” bookmark.

In addition, the fifth grade students shared important drug facts with the school during the morning announcements. The students had a fun week and learned about the importance of not using drugs.
