Winnovation Earns Excellence in Engineering Award at Greater Kansas City Regional!

It was an exciting week of robotics competitions at the Greater Kansas City Regional!  Winnovation was awarded with the Excellence in Engineering Award, for our six wheel swerve drive (a first in FIRST Robotics), powerful kicking mechanism, and arm system that allows the robot to be suspended from a tower in the middle of the playing field. 

High School Spanish Students teach second graders

Members of the Winnebago High School Spanish Class visit Dorothy Simon Elementary Second Graders each month for enrichment classes. As part of the outreach project, seniors teach second graders lessons they have prepared themselves.

How Parents Can Help Students Taking ISAT Tests

Starting on March 2, third grade at Simon Elementary will be taking standardized tests. Third grade takes the ISAT – Illinois Standard Achievement Test. The test dates will start on March 2 through March 12 from 8:45-10:00 a.m. and will cover the areas of Reading, Math, and Writing.

Seward hosts Olympics

Seward Early Learning center hosted their own Olympic games last week. Activities included: Speed Skating, Mogules, Snowball Fight, Winter Wear Relay, Two-Man Bobsled, Olympic Ring Toss and Broom Hockey.

Seventh grade students tour Pepisco Chicago Sustainability Center

Winnebago Middle School students visited the Pepisco Chicago Sustainability Center as part of their Seventh Grade Thought Processors eCybermission Team project.

Third quarter ends March 19

Jean McNair's third quarter grading period will end Fri., March 19, and report cards will be sent home on Wed., March 24.  The fourth and final quarter of the school year will begin on Mon., March 22 and we have much to do prior to the year ending. 

We are all hoping the 4th quarter will bring warmer, spring weather…I know we’re ready for it! 

Spring Picture Day April 12

Jean McNair Spring Picture Day will be Mon., April 12.  More information will be sent home with students.

Compass Learning offered at Jean McNair

We have an exciting, new opportunity available to our students here at McNair. Compass Learning is a web-based program used to help students learn at their own level in the areas of Language Arts and Math. Compass Learning imports scores from specific areas of the students’ NWEA tests, such as Word Analysis and Vocabulary, Reading Strategies, and Literary Elements.

Winnebago Seniors recognized as RAMM Scholars

The Rockford Association for Minority Management Scholars were recognized this past weekend, with two Winnebago Seniors among the 27  recipients.  Students were honored for their leadership, academic achievement, and community service. Recipients also must be planning to attend a  two-year or four-year college.
