District Update July 17, 2020

We look forward to the 2020-2021 school year and welcoming our students and staff back in an environment that is safe and healthy.  Thank you for your feedback on the Fall Reopening survey.  We have reviewed the data and have been working diligently to provide you more information.  Some of the results that stood out include:

  • Over 1000 responses
  • 62% prefer in-person instruction following the State and Health Department guidance, which includes wearing a mask.
  • At this time 29% of parents are not sure if they will send their children. Parents need more information about the Return to School Plan.
  • 9% of parents prefer remote learning.
  • 49% responded that bus transportation was needed.
  • 38% of Simon and McNair parents indicated that child care would be an issue with remote learning.
  • 26% of Simon and McNair parents indicated Kids Club services would be needed.

Based on those results, we are committed to meeting the educational needs of our District families with a choice of the environment that a family believes is most appropriate for their situation.

In-Person Learning following ISBE & IDPH guidance with Kids Club open

or

Remote Learning

In Person Learning following ISBE & IDPH guidance will be followed, which includes,

  • Required use of face masks.
  • Prohibit more than 50 individuals from gathering in one space.
  • Require social distancing to be observed, to the extent possible.
  • Require symptom screenings and temperature checks before entering the school building.
  • Require an increase in schoolwide cleaning and disinfection.

We continue to work as a district with our Board of Education, staff and administrators, our transportation department, the local and state health department, and our fellow school districts to answer the many valid questions that we are presented with during this challenge.

Next week we will email you additional information on our Return to School Plan that you will need to make the best decision for your family to commit to your choice and transportation mode.

Sincerely,
John Schwuchow
