Winnebago District 323

Mission StatementWinnebago CUSD #323 is located in the Village of Winnebago and services students from five rural communities. Students and families from Burritt, Rockford, and Winnebago Township as well as from the Villages of Winnebago and Seward are part of our education family.

Winnebago CUSD #323 is a PreK-12 grade district that provides comprehensive, strong core academic programs. The district is comprised of one high school, one middle school, and two elementary schools.

Our mascot, the Winnebago Indian, is a copyrighted mascot that was researched and drawn by local artist Tom Heflin.

Registering to Vote
In cooperation with Winnebago County Clerk, residents of District #323 will now be able to register to vote at the District Office or in the office of any of the District’s schools. If you are new to the District or if you have moved since you last registered to vote, you can register at the school nearest you.

Kids Club Update - YMCA Kids' Time starting November 30

Effective November 30, the YMCA of Rock River Valley will be running the Winnebago Kids Club for Dorothy Simon and Jean McNair families. The YMCA will provide after school care (Kids’ Time) at Dorothy Simon and Jean McNair Schools between 2 and 5:30 p.m.

No School November 26 - 27

CUSD #323 staff and students will not be in attendance November 26-27 in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday. All schools and offices will be closed. Classes will resume Monday, November 30.  

Covid-19 Testing Guidance

In order to assist Winnebago families, parents, and staff in need of a Covid-19 test, we have put together a list of the following recommended sites available to obtain testing. Please note that only RT-PCR Covid-19 test results will be accepted:

Jean McNair had Custodian's Appreciation Day October 26-30 to honor their "Spooktacular" Custodians, Karla and Lisa! 

Winnebago School District #323 has Three Open Board Seats

Winnebago Community Unit School District 323 will have three school board seats to be filled at the April 6, 2021 consolidated election.  The three school board seats are for four-year terms with the terms expiring in April 2025.

Winnebago School District #323 has had reports of the school district emails ending up in the Promotions tab in Gmail.

WHS Student Semi-Finalist for the National Merit Scholarship

Congratulations to senior David L. for being named a Semi-Finalist for the National Merit Scholarship. Each year 1.5 million students take the NMSQT/PSAT qualifier and only the top 16,000 students are selected to continue with the process. This is a huge accomplishment for David.  

Winnebago School District Launches Safe School Helpline

The Winnebago School District has launched a new service called Safe Schools. Safe Schools is an anonymous reporting service that all students can use to report any inappropriate activity at school. This service also allows students to be connected to mental health services and emergency services in times of a crisis and after school hours.
